David Hockney at the Fondation Louis Vuitton
From April 9 to August 31, 2025, Paris celebrates one of the greatest contemporary artists with the exhibition “Do Remember They Can't Cancel the Spring”, dedicated to David Hockney, at the Fondation Louis Vuitton. This exceptional retrospective offers a rare immersion into the teeming universe of the British artist.
Occupying the entire Fondation building, this monumental exhibition brings together over 400 works produced between 1955 and 2025. Prestigious loans from private collections, international institutions and the artist's studio stand alongside never-before-seen creations. David Hockney, true to his free and daring approach, explores all media: oil and acrylic painting, drawing, photography, digital works and immersive installations.
Hockney himself has designed each space in this exhibition, alongside his collaborators Jean-Pierre Gonçalves de Lima and Jonathan Wilkinson. It showcases his last 25 years of creation, marked by the landscapes of Yorkshire, Normandy and London, while revisiting iconic works such as A Bigger Splash (1967) and Portrait of an Artist (Pool with Two Figures, 1972).
Hockney captures the seasons with luminous intensity: from the blossoming spring of “May Blossom on the Roman Road” (2009) to the monumental “Bigger Trees near Warter” (2007), visitors are immersed in an exuberant, almost spiritual nature. The title of the exhibition - “Do Remember They Can't Cancel the Spring” - is a reminder of the extent to which nature remains a constant source of hope and inspiration.
The exhibition also reveals the artist's digital experiments: iPad paintings, portraits of friends and flowers, and the “220 for 2020” series, a visual diary of the Normandy seasons. Installed in classic frames, these digital works blend harmoniously into the museum's layout.
