“Agnès Varda's Paris, de-ci, de-là” at the Musée Carnavalet
Until August 24, 2025, the Musée Carnavalet – History of Paris (located at 23 rue de Sévigné in the 3rd arrondissement) presents “Le Paris d’Agnès Varda, de-ci, de-là”, a unique exhibition that explores the intimate and creative connection between Agnès Varda and the French capital.
Featuring over 130 photographs—many of them previously unseen—alongside film excerpts shot in Paris, personal belongings, and rare archival materials, the exhibition pays tribute to the richness and originality of Varda’s vision of the city.
The exhibition journey begins in the legendary courtyard studio on rue Daguerre (Paris 14th), Varda’s cherished creative haven from 1951 to 2019. Visitors can discover her early photography, portraits, distinctive reportage work, and the vibrant artistic world she shared with filmmaker Jacques Demy—blending cinema and theater.
This immersive experience highlights how Agnès Varda so vividly captured the soul of Paris, with a gaze that was tender, ironic, and politically aware. Through everyday scenes, passersby, and street life, she reveals the poetic beauty hidden in the ordinary.
Whether you’re visiting as a couple, with family, or solo, this exhibition is accessible to all ages. It will captivate fans of photography, cinema, Parisian history—or anyone looking to see the City of Light from a new, heartfelt perspective.
