The Cartier Foundation
Now located at 2 Place du Palais-Royal, 75001 Paris, the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain marks an important milestone in its history: a strategic move from its former building in the 14th arrondissement to the historic heart of the capital. The official inauguration of this new site took place on 25 October 2025.
Designed by architect Jean Nouvel, who was also responsible for its former monument on Boulevard Raspail, this transformed Haussmannian building retains its historic façade while offering modular spaces that are larger and more open to the city. Architecture thus becomes an integral part of the experience: the Foundation is no longer just a showcase for art; it is an active supporter of it.
Jean Nouvel's redesigned spaces feature ‘mobile platforms,’ an innovative scenographic flexibility that gives artists and exhibitions new fields of expression.
The inaugural exhibition, ‘Exposition Générale’ (from 25 October 2025 to 23 August 2026), traces forty years of the Foundation's programming through nearly 600 works by more than 100 artists.
Located between the Palais Royal and the Louvre Museum, the Fondation Cartier is part of an iconic neighbourhood, making it easy to fit a cultural outing into any Parisian stay.
